Position Purpose
The primary responsibility of the Yard Official is to ensure the proper placement and clearing of wagons and locomotives. This role involves compiling, receiving, and dispatching trains by passing on information to deliver wagons and trains safely to their required destinations according to a prescribed set of rules.
Position Outputs Transnet Yard Official X 7 (FTC) – Locomotives BT
- Control Point Register: Maintain accurate records of train movements and operations.
- Coupled Trucks: Efficiently couple and uncouple trucks as required.
- Yard Operations: Manage and oversee yard operations to ensure smooth and safe train movement.
- Dispatched Train: Responsible for the safe dispatching of trains.
- Vehicle List/Train Composition Certificate: Compile and manage the train composition certificates.
- Protect Crossings: Ensure all crossings are adequately protected during train movements.
- Control Derailers: Operate and control derailers to maintain safety.
- Shunting of Locos: Handle the shunting of various locomotives, including:
- 23E class
- 18E class
- 7E
- 19E
- Diesel locos, wagons, and coaches
- Operating Travesor, Hunslet, Whiting, and Zephyr: Operate these machines effectively.
- Changing of Points: Manage and change rail points as needed.
- Operating Dezy Hauler: Operate the Dezy Hauler for train movement.
- Coupling of Loads, Safety Links, and Air/Vacuum Brakes: Ensure proper coupling of all safety and operational links and brakes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Requirement: Minimum of Grade 10.
- Certification: Yard Official Certificate.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a Yard Official.
