Education Assistant (EA) Vacancies
The Department of Basic Education has opened applications for Education Assistant (EA) vacancies across all provinces in South Africa as part of the 2025 phase of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative. These fixed-term roles provide young South Africans with meaningful opportunities to contribute to their communities while gaining valuable experience in the education sector.

Job Responsibilities
Education Assistant Roles Available
There are four distinct Education Assistant roles available under this program:
1. Reading Champions
- Must have passed English in Grade 12
- Passion for reading and literacy development
- Support language and reading enrichment activities
2. Curriculum Assistants
- Must have passed Matric with at least 40% in the relevant subject
- Assist with classroom setup, learning materials, and educator support
- Not involved in teaching or curriculum delivery
3. E-Cadres
- Must have passed IT in Matric or possess an IT certificate or NQF Level 4 qualification
- Support digital learning, technology integration, and school e-learning programs
4. Care and Support Assistants (CSA)
- Must have Matric and a demonstrated interest in supporting learner wellbeing
- Priority given to applicants with qualifications in Psychology or Social Services
Job Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to qualify for the Department of Education Assistant Teacher application:
- Age: 18–34 years old
- Residency: Must live within 5km of the school (or within 30km for farm/rural schools)
- Must be NEET: Not in Education, Employment, or Training
- Not currently receiving a stipend, salary, or education funding (e.g., NSFAS, Funza Lushaka, or personal SASSA grants)
- Must not have participated in Phase I, II, or III of the program
- Must not be part of any other Department of Basic Education program (e.g., Food Handlers, Screeners, Bus Monitors)
- Must have no criminal record and provide SAPS clearance
- Must not appear on the National Register for Sexual Offenders (NRSO)
- Must have a valid SA ID or Passport
- Youth with disabilities must provide a valid medical certificate
Compensation and Benefits
- Monthly stipend of R5,200 (1% UIF deduction applies)
- Gain relevant experience in education and learner support
- Serve your community while developing soft and technical skills
- Contract duration: 19 May 2025 – 30 December 2025

- Complete the SA Youth Teacher Assistant application form 2025 and upload required documents

If selected, candidates will sign an Acceptance and Declaration Form, confirming they meet the program’s eligibility criteria.
