Job Purpose
The HSE Officer will take full responsibility for health, safety, and environmental management on-site. The role involves implementing and maintaining safety systems, conducting risk assessments, and fostering a culture of proactive safety awareness across all levels of site operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain HSE elements of the company’s BOS across all activities.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Lead safety, health, and environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ISO standards.
- Oversee subcontractor compliance and promote adherence to HSE policies.
- Support site teams in maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
- Investigate incidents and non-conformances, implementing corrective actions.
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions, and training sessions to strengthen safety culture.
- Act as the primary HSE liaison for clients and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications and Certifications
- SACPCMP Registration (valid for 5+ years)
- SAMTRAC or NEBOSH Certification
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment certification
Beneficial Certifications:
- Legal Liability Certificate
- Fall Protection Plan Training
- Incident Investigation Certification
- First Aid Certificate
Experience and Competencies
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as an HSE Officer in the building construction sector.
- Strong understanding of South African HSE legislation, standards, and by-laws.
- Proven ability to work independently on active construction sites.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
- High attention to detail with a proactive approach to risk management.
Additional Requirements
- Must hold a valid driver’s licence and have reliable transport.
- Must reside within Gauteng.
- Reports directly to the Regional HSE Manager.
