Unisa Online Teaching Assistants – Signature Modules (Independent Contractors)

Position Overview

UNISA, South Africa’s leading distance education institution, is seeking qualified candidates to serve as Online Teaching Assistants for various signature modules within the College of Accounting Sciences. This is an independent contractor role with no employee benefits. Successful applicants will contribute to online student support, marking, and engagement with an expected workload of at least 20 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements for Unisa Online Teaching Assistants

  • Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Accountancy or an MBA/MBL with an Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, are essential.
  • Access to reliable internet and personal computer equipment.
  • Commitment to student-centered learning with excellent communication skills in English.

Key Responsibilities for Unisa Online Teaching Assistants

  • Familiarizing yourself with the course content and the UNISA online learning platform (myUnisa).
  • Engaging with students via online forums and providing timely feedback on assignments.
  • Grading approximately six online assignments and providing detailed feedback.
  • Supporting students through online discussions and addressing their queries within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Collaborating with lead lecturers and participating in test pack marking and meetings.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as plagiarism reports and marking spreadsheets.

Competencies and Skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Passion for teaching and student engagement.
  • Experience with the myUnisa platform and prior teaching experience is advantageous.
  • Willingness to undergo online training provided by UNISA.

Monthly Remuneration

R18,060.80 per annum (Remuneration is payable only upon activation of duties starting from 1st February 2025).
