To qualify for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Education and Certifications

Grade 10 school-leaving certificate (NQF Level 3) – required
Grade 2 Meat Cutting Certificate – required
Recognized Butchery Apprenticeship or Learnership – preferred

Experience and Skills

At least 2 years’ experience in a Halaal Butchery
Supermarket butchery experience – advantageous
Cutting skills of all meat species
Deboning and meat processing expertise
Stock control and pricing management
Good customer service and communication skills

Knowledge Requirements

Role: Blockman

As a Blockman, you will be responsible for:

Cutting and preparing meat to required specifications
Managing stock levels and ensuring product freshness
Implementing daily production plans set by the Butchery Manager
Maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards
Assisting with pricing, POS updates, and customer queries

Key Responsibilities

Meat Cutting and Processing

Debone, portion, and prepare meat products for retail display
Cut meat into standard portions while ensuring minimal waste
Maintain high-quality standards in meat preparation

Stock and Inventory Control

Monitor stock levels to avoid shortages or excess inventory
Ensure all meat products are stored correctly to maintain freshness
Manage pricing and POS updates

Hygiene and Housekeeping

Follow strict hygiene and safety regulations
Ensure the butchery is clean, organized, and compliant with food safety standards

Customer Service

Assist customers with meat product inquiries
Provide advice on different cuts and cooking methods
