What You’ll Do as a Security Officer
- Monitor CCTV cameras and observe in-store activity to spot theft or suspicious behaviour.
- Conduct routine patrols inside and outside the store.
- Stop and manage shoplifters or individuals engaged in suspicious activity.
- Work with store managers and police to handle security incidents professionally.
- Keep the environment safe and welcoming for shoppers and employees.
- Respond to emergencies, including medical events or disruptions.
- Control access to sensitive or staff-only areas.
- Verify the identity of individuals entering and leaving the premises.
- Record detailed, clear reports of incidents and observations during your shift.
- Assist customers with directions or basic store-related queries.
- Maintain a polite and professional approach at all times.
- Use and check security tools, including cameras, alarms, and radios.
- Follow company safety and security rules closely.
- Stay informed about security procedures and legal guidelines.
Requirements to Become a Mafoko Security Officer
- PSIRA registered – Grade C (must be up to date)
- Minimum Grade 10 certificate
- Able to communicate clearly in English (spoken and written)
- Understanding of search protocols
- Neat, presentable, and professional appearance
- Must live in or near Pretoria
- Experience in security, law enforcement, or a similar role is an advantage
- Good observation skills and the ability to think quickly
- Remain calm in pressure situations
- Comfortable using security equipment
- Physically fit to stand or walk for long periods
