About the RBIDZ Bursary Programme
The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to students residing in KwaZulu-Natal. This bursary supports academically strong and financially needy learners pursuing undergraduate studies in fields aligned with South Africa’s economic development goals.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens residing in KwaZulu-Natal
- Be from a previously disadvantaged background
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Have a minimum average of 65%
- Be accepted or have applied to a recognised South African university or university of technology
- Intend to study full-time in one of the listed fields

Selection Process
Selection is based on academic merit and financial need. Shortlisted candidates may undergo an assessment and interview. The bursary is renewable each year based on academic performance and conduct. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 5 January 2026.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit certified copies (within the last 3 months) of:
- South African ID
- Matric certificate or latest results
- Proof of university application or acceptance
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
- Proof of household income
- Reference letter from a teacher or community leader
- Motivational letter
- Proof of residence from ward councillor or tribal authority
