Types of Matric Certificate Applications

Re-issue Process (Change of Particulars)
You can request corrections within 12 months of the original certificate issue date. The original certificate must be returned.
Common reasons for re-issue:
- Administrative errors (subject marks, results, personal details)
- Alteration of sex description and status (with Department of Home Affairs approval)
Required documents:
- Original certificate and certified copy
- ID document and certified copy
- Detailed affidavit stating reasons for alteration
- Confirmation letter from Home Affairs (for sex description changes)
- Birth certificate or equivalent document
- Completed application form
- Proof of payment
Replacement Process (Lost or Damaged)
If your certificate is lost or damaged, you must:
- Pay the prescribed fee
- Submit an affidavit explaining what happened to your certificate
- Return the damaged certificate (if applicable)
- Provide a certified copy of your ID
- Complete the application form
You can apply in person at DBE/PED offices or download the form and mail it with required documents to Private Bag X895, Pretoria, 0001. Online applications are also available at www.eservices.gov.za.
Change of Status Process
If you wrote matric exams in multiple sittings and want to combine credits:
- Pay the prescribed fee
- Submit results from all examination sittings
- Provide ID and certified copy
- Submit proof of payment
- Complete the application form
Matric Certificate Applications Important Notes
- Processing takes 4-6 weeks for records on the system
- Longer processing times apply for records not on the system
- Fees are valid from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026
- Statement of results can be obtained while waiting for certificate processing
- The DBE does not automatically combine credits unless you wrote a supplementary exam
