The eThekwini Municipality is inviting applications from unemployed South African youth for the Artisan Development Learnerships 2025. This opportunity provides hands-on training in critical technical trades through the eThekwini Municipal Academy under the Outreach & Capacity Building Department.
The programme aims to develop skilled artisans in KwaZulu-Natal who can contribute to South Africa’s growing technical workforce. Successful learners will undergo both theoretical and practical training over a period not exceeding three years.

About the eThekwini Artisan Development Programme
This initiative gives unemployed youth the opportunity to qualify as artisans through structured apprenticeship training. The programme combines on-site practical experience with theoretical instruction at an accredited training institution.
Learners will complete all modules in accordance with the requirements of the SETA, QCTO, and the National Artisan Moderating Body (NAMB). At the end of the programme, participants will undergo a formal trade test to qualify as artisans in their chosen fields.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
- Minimum N2 Certificate with the relevant trade theory subject; or
- Technical/Grade 12 with Mathematics, Physical Science, and a trade-related theory subject; or
- N6 Certificate or National Technical Diploma (S or N stream) related to the trade;
- Must be unemployed and a South African citizen;
- Must be a resident of eThekwini Municipality (proof required);
- Aged between 18 and 35 years;
- Must have a genuine passion and interest in the chosen field;
- Applicants must not have participated in a similar apprenticeship programme before.
