Democracy Education Facilitator

Location: City of Cape Town, Western Cape

Contract Duration: 1 December 2023 to 30 April 2024

Minimum Requirements:Democracy Education Facilitator

  1. Matric/N3 qualification
  2. Strong community mobilization experience, including facilitation skills and the ability to engage diverse audiences
  3. Access to a cell phone

Other Requirements:

  1. Reside in or be familiar with the relevant municipality or ward
  2. Demonstrable knowledge of the municipality, its civil society structures, and leadership
  3. No involvement in political positions or party campaigns

Main Responsibilities:Democracy Education Facilitator

  1. Conduct non-partisan civic and democracy education on behalf of the Electoral Commission
  2. Organize gatherings for civic and democracy education in assigned ward/s
  3. Develop a schedule for interventions in the assigned wards
  4. Prepare and deliver presentations
  5. Facilitate educational interactions with community members
  6. Distribute Electoral Commission’s educational materials in assigned ward(s)
  7. Compile and submit reports and supporting evidence for all interventions
  8. Perform other duties related to civic and democracy education as assigned

Other Requirements:

  1. No one under the age of 18 years
  2. Must be a registered voter
  3. South African citizenship required
  4. No criminal record (unless deviation granted)
  5. Not a candidate in elections in the last five years
  6. Not an office bearer of a political party in the last 5 years
  7. Not an office bearer of any other organization with party political aims in the last 5 years
  8. Not related to an employee of the Electoral Commission in the specific municipality (unless deviation granted)

Application Details:

  • No late applications will be considered
  • Applicants should not have a high party political profile
  • Successful permanent candidates will enter performance contracts
  • Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from SAQA
  • Applications must include CV, qualification documents, ID copy, and driver’s license (if required)

Note:

  • Recommended candidates will undergo risk assessments
  • Probation period of twelve months for permanent employees
  • The Electoral Commission will only correspond with short-listed candidates
  • The Commission reserves the right not to fill the position/s and may withdraw or re-advertise positions as needed for service delivery.
