The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is hiring a large contingent of Security Officers (381 positions) for the Mangaung Maximum Correctional Centre. These roles are essential for maintaining safety, security, and the rehabilitation of offenders within the Free State and Northern Cape Region.

Salary Scales

  • CB1-1: R212,358 per annum
  • CB1-2: R257,895 per annum
  • CB1-3: R313,521 per annum

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Matric / Grade 12.
  • Mandatory Training: Successful completion of the Correctional Science Learnership / Basic Training.
  • Experience Requirements:
    • CB1-1: No previous experience required.
    • CB1-2: Ten (10) years of relevant experience at the CB1-1 level.
    • CB1-3: Ten (10) years of relevant experience at the CB1-2 level.

Key Competencies

  • Technical: Firearm competency and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of the Correctional Services Act, Minimum-Security Standards, and relevant policies.
  • Skills: Strong report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Access Control: Manage entry and exit points at the centre and between internal areas.
  • Inmate Movement: Control and monitor the movement of inmates both internally and during external transfers.
  • Guarding: Guard inmates within the facility and at external public institutions (e.g., hospitals or courts).
  • Inspections: Perform regular physical security inspections and manage security control rooms.
  • Asset Control: Manage stores and specialized security equipment.
  • Rehabilitation: Foster a safe and humane environment conducive to the correction and development of offenders.
